Community Projects

Our nursery

We aim to cultivate as many plants as possible ‘in house’ to ensure they have been grown organically, in healthy soil, to a very high standard. We still have to source plants from elsewhere but are working hard in our own nursery to be ever more self-sufficient whilst supporting other organic nurseries. Those providing herbs, vegetables and fruit trees are well represented but there are only a handful who grow herbaceous perennials and ornamental shrubs using organic principles.

Our volunteers

During the summer, we have as many as four young people here at any one time, to learn about horticulture from an environmentally responsible perspective.

We are delighted to have the support of Professor Dave Goulson, founder of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and senior lecturer at Sussex University, who sits on our board of advisors. We are currently planning a joint venture where his students will come to study bumblebees and carry out research on plants for the optimum bee garden.
